The Shop

Eat Play Love (formerly The Mutty Professor Shop) is an independent pet shop based in Bedminster, Bristol, UK. We do our research and only stock items that are good for our pets and us. We also try as much as possible to stock items that promote environmental sustainability and support local businesses.

We are primarily a pet shop for dog supplies, but are expanding our range of cat supplies. When browsing via category, you can filter by "pet" and select "cat" to see items that are suitable for cats.

Food & Treats

When it comes to foods, treats, chews, and supplements we only work with suppliers who are transparent about their ingredients, and only stock products that are biologically appropriate and high-quality.

Training Equipment & Toys

We only stock products that are safe to use.

Toys: We do not stock toys that are made with toxic plastics, that could damage a dog's teeth when chewed, or that encourage play/movements that could lead to repetitive strain injury. We do not stock toys that are choke hazards, but please note any toy if damaged can present a choke hazard so please always supervise your pets.

Training equipmentWe do not stock training equipment that causes discomfort, pain, or fear.  We strongly endorse positive reinforcement training and have a large range of products that will help you positively reinforce your dog or cat!

Walking equipment: We strongly recommend walking your dog by clipping the lead to a harness, not a collar. Like in humans, the neck is a very sensitive area. Putting pressure on the neck can damage the neck, trachea, larynx and thyroid. We do not stock harnesses or leads / longlines that put dogs/cats/owners at risk of injury, or causes stress to the animal. Walking your dog on too short of a lead prevents them being able to engage in natural, beneficial behaviours such as sniffing. Sniffing allows dogs to take in information about their environment, both exercising their mind, and relaxing them. Flexi-leads pose an injury risk. They can cause serious burns and cuts, and a dog can be injured if they run to the end of these leads. Their inflexibility means there is always tension on the lead (and dogs can sense this tension which can make them feel stressed). Flexi-leads can also hinder efforts at teaching loose lead walking as dogs learn that pulling = more freedom. "No-pull" equipment works by causing discomfort, pain, or restricting movement. Harnesses that have a horizontal strap across the chest restricts shoulder movement, so dogs are less able to pull, but this also disrupts their gait.

For more information on equipment, we highly recommend reading this blog from clinical animal behaviourist, Roz Pooley.

Healthcare

We are big advocates of preventative care. We stock a wide range of grooming tools and medicinal/holistic items that can help maintain the health of your pet's eyes, ears, nose, nails, paws, coat, teeth, joints, digestive tract, and more.

Mental health is often overlooked in our pets. Dogs and cats can suffer from anxiety just like us. We stock a range of items to help keep their stress levels low, from enrichment toys to chews and herbal supplements.

Rest & relaxation is key to both promoting physical and mental health. Take a look at our jumpers & beds to help keep pets warm and cozy.
